What We Believe

Seventh-day Adventists are a people of the book.
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God
(2 Timothy 3:15, 16).

Adventists believe in the God-head of three persons--the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit--making up one God. The God-head made salvation possible when Jesus, the Son, came to earth as a baby in Bethlehem and lived a sinless life in accordance with the Father's will. When Jesus was crucified for the sins of the people of the world and arose from the dead on the third day, he made it possible that who ever believes in Him may not perish but receive the gift of eternal life (John 3:16). The last invitation of the Bible is given to us by God to receive the water of life (the gift of eternal life). Revelation 22:17 says, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely."

Adventists believe that the Bible is primarily a love letter from Jesus Christ, to help lead us to Jesus Christ. Jesus said, in John 5:39-40, "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me". Everyone who has Jesus Christ has life, but to not have Christ is to cut oneself off from the lifeline (John 3:36).

Adventists also believe in the seventh-day Sabbath because of their desire to be faithful to the whole Bible. The Sabbath was established in Eden (Genesis 2:3), confirmed in the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:8-11). and kept by Jesus Christ. Jesus said in Luke 6:5 "And He said to them, "The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath". Adventists do not keep the Sabbath or any other commandment to be saved, but as a response of gratitude, love, and obedience because of the great salvation provided by Jesus (John 14:15).

When Jesus returned to heaven following the resurrection, Jesus left the Holy Spirit to serve as our Comforter and Counselor (John 14:16-18). He promised to return to earth a second time to complete His plan of salvation and take His people to heaven. Adventists are among the believers who look forward to that day. Jesus told us in John 14:1-3
"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also". Jesus is coming again, visibly, audibly and gloriously (Luke 21:27).

Adventists believe that God is concerned with the quality of human life, and that everything--the way we live, eat, speak, think, treat each other, and care for the world around us--is a part of His plan. Our families, our children, our jobs, our talents, our money, and our time are all important to Him. In 1 Corinthians 10:31 the Bible tells us that, "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God". God loves us all so very much and that is why he has made available to us the gift of eternal life through Jesus and instructions on how to live a life that is holy, happy, and healthy.
